The Bonnie Castle Arena Announces Date to Formally Begin Renovations

The Bonnie Castle Recreation Center will begin renovations in mid May in preparation for the 1000 Islands Privateers' arrival in October 2010.

One end of the arena will be turned into a locker room suite containing individual wooden stalls for each player, and laundry and training facilities. In addition, coaches and marketing offices will be included in the layout. The Privateers will enter the ice from an uncovered back walkway that enters directly onto their players' bench.

Within the rink itself, arena management will be updating the boards and expanding the players' benches. A new sound system will be installed. Individual numbers are being assigned to each seat in the facility. Updates are also being made to the lobby and entryway in order to accommodate more foot traffic.

Danbury Whalers
 Phone: 973-713-7547

Danbury Whalers CEO / Managing General Partner, Herm Sorcher announced that the Danbury Whalers have hired Bill Romaniello and Keith Deyo as the athletic trainers of the team.  Both men are co-owners of The Edge Performance Training in Bethel.

Keith provided some commentary about how excited he and Bill are to begin work with Danbury:

The EDGE Performance Training strives to be the leaders in Sports Performance and Injury Prevention Training in Connecticut. When we heard that hockey was not only coming back to Danbury but arriving with team of the most talented athletes this area has ever seen we knew we would be a perfect fit.

The Whalers organization has a commitment to excellence which is a quality that resonates with us. The EDGE Performance Training, along with the medical staff from Connecticut Family Orthopedics & Manoni Chiropractic, are going to expect that the Whalers players show up for this season in shape and ready to go.

Each player will be given a pre-season workout before they even arrive with the bulk of that work focused on exercises and drills that are specific to building a strong foundation for a long demanding season.

By coming in healthy and ready to perform we will be able to get right into developing team strength, speed, agility, and power. The level of care our Sports Medicine and Performance will provide is going to exceed far and above anyone’s expectations. We are looking forward to developing the most intense opening night that Danbury hockey fans have ever seen. Top-notch players, professional staff, and a family friendly environment will become a staple of Danbury Whalers Hockey. It will be nothing short of goose bumps and hair-raising action!

Looking forward to seeing you there – Keith Deyo
